A Little about us and what we do.

About Us

A Journey to do Something Special

Childcare was not my passion from an early age.  In fact, if you had told me in 2007 that I would own two childcare centers I would have told you that you were absolutely crazy.  I had been a Regional VP for a well known hotel chain for the past 15 years.  It was a career that I had loved for quite some time.  The company was sold to a large private equity firm, and things changed.  The hotel company became more focussed on profit than people.  The part of my job I loved the most was developing people, so when that became less important to the company, I knew it was time for a change.

My sister had owned her childcare business for years, and I really liked what she was doing.  She was having an impact on young people, and could make decisions on her own without answering to a board full of expense specialists. I visited many of the centers in the CSRA and was appalled at the lack of good choices for parents.  I took the plunge and bought the vacant run down building that is now the center at 118 Old Evans Road.  I knew the minute I walked in the purple and yellow building, that it had potential. I completely renovated it, and with my sisters knowledge and help, the center opened in 2008.  I purchased my second center downtown in 2010 and completely renovated that one as well. In 2016 I sold the location in downtown Augusta to focus more time on the Martinez location.  I added a training center next to that center and now we not only train our staff, but teachers across the United States.

The journey over the years has taught me so much.  I have a sincere passion for what I do, and want to make a difference in the lives of our employees, children and parents.  I love spending time at the centers working with the directors and staff. I am  at  the center most weekends either painting, making repairs, cleaning carpets, or putting together new furniture or toys.  I am a hands on owner, and love it that way!  I take great pride in what we do at Cornerstone, and I hope we are making a difference in  families lives.  We are Christian based which means your child will learn Bible stories, pray before meals, and be taught Christian principles in their daily lessons. We won't always be perfect, and as hard as we try to make everyone happy I know that is an impossible task.  However, that will never stop me from trying!  I feel honored and blessed to be given the opportunity to take care of your children. I take the responsibility very seriously.   Sometimes people ask me if I miss my old job.  Although I really miss a lot of the great people I worked with, I don't miss the corporate red tape.  If I want to buy a new piece of playground equipment, I don't need 3 approvals and a 47 page report justifying the expense.  I just do it because I know the kids will love it !    I believe it just goes to show how God really knows where our heart is.  I would not have chosen this career on my own, but God lead me to it.

I am involved in the community and am part of the Columbia County Exchange Club, AUSA, and the Columbia County Chamber. I was chosen to be part of the Leadership Columbia County Program in 2017 and serve on the steering committee for Youth Leadership and Adult Leadership for the 2018 and 2019 program. Cornerstone Academy provides financial support to the Columbia County Exchange Club which primary focusses on the prevention of child abuse.  I firmly believe that if we all work together, we can make a difference in others lives.
